Ford Financing in Nanaimo

Our finance team arranges financing and leasing on new and used vehicles, working with Ford Credit and a range of banks and credit unions. You can apply online before you visit, which means an approval is usually in place before you choose a vehicle.

What Financing Means

Financing a vehicle means buying it and spreading the purchase across a term. Each payment is part interest and part principal, and the principal portion accumulates as equity in a vehicle you own outright at the end. That is what separates financing from leasing, and it is why most Canadian buyers finance.

Term Length

A longer term lowers your payment and raises the total interest you pay. A shorter term does the reverse. There is no single right answer, but there is a wrong one: financing over a term longer than you intend to keep the vehicle.

Down Payment

Money down reduces the amount financed and the interest that comes with it, and it protects you from owing more than the vehicle is worth in the early years, when depreciation is steepest.

Payment Frequency

Weekly and biweekly payments retire principal slightly faster than monthly payments over the same term, at no extra cost.

Paying Off Early

Most vehicle loans allow extra payments without penalty. A lump sum applied to principal early in the term saves considerably more interest than the same amount applied near the end. Ask about prepayment terms before you sign.

Negotiate the Structure, Not Just the Rate

Buyers negotiate hard on price, accept the first rate they are offered, and never discuss the shape of the loan. Term, down payment, payment frequency, and whether a trade-in goes toward the down payment or comes back as cash are all adjustable, and adjusting them changes your total cost more than a fraction of a percentage point does.

First-Time Buyers and Recent Graduates

Ford's first-time buyer program and graduate rebate program are both available here, and both run year-round. If you are buying your first vehicle or have finished school recently, ask whether you qualify.

Self-Employed and Non-Standard Income

Self-employed applicants are assessed on notices of assessment and business records rather than pay stubs. Drivers new to Canada or with a short credit history can often be placed as well. If your credit has been damaged, our second chance financing page covers that route.

Commercial Financing

Business and fleet purchases are financed differently from personal vehicles. Our commercial vehicle centre handles commercial financing for single vehicles and for fleets.

Financing a Used Vehicle

Used vehicles typically finance over shorter terms and at higher rates than new ones. Certified pre-owned Fords may qualify for manufacturer rate programs that other used vehicles do not.
